Mark 9:42-50
42 "But if anyone causes one of these little ones who trusts in me to lose faith, it would be better for that person to be thrown into the sea with a large millstone tied around the neck. 43 If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better to enter heaven with only one hand than to go into the unquenchable fires of hell with two hands. 45 If your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better to enter heaven with only one foot than to be thrown into hell with two feet. 47 And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out. It is better to enter the Kingdom of God half blind than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, 48 'where the worm never dies and the fire never goes out.'
49 "For everyone will be purified with fire. 50 Salt is good for seasoning. But if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again? You must have the qualities of salt among yourselves and live in peace with each other." (NLT) *(V44 & V46 are the same as V48 and are not found in earlier manuscripts)
Your walk with Christ is an important walk and one not to be taken lightly. When you teach you must teach God’s Word not your opinion. If, for some reason, your upbringing or personal opinion does not agree with God’s Word then you better take a close look at why they differ. God’s Word is truth and it needs to be taken to heart. If we teach contrary to God’s Word there are consequences to not keeping to it. In your walk God knows you will make small mistakes but He will continue to refine you with fire. This may hurt at times but in the end God will be glorified. Therefore we must continue to focus on Christ and His will for our lives and be obedient to His Word.
Salt not only is a seasoning but it is also a preservative. We are to be like salt, to season people’s lives with the Good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to be a preservative, stable, steadfast in persecution and to be a reflection of the solid rock, Jesus Christ. Salt also can be a healing agent. In order to live in peace with each other we must heal our damaged relationship. If we do not do these things then we are of no use. If we lose our flavor then we become un-useful to our Masters work. Therefore be salt and never lose your flavor.
