Mark 9:33-37
33 After they arrived at Capernaum, Jesus and his disciples settled in the house where they would be staying. Jesus asked them, "What were you discussing out on the road?" 34 But they didn't answer, because they had been arguing about which of them was the greatest. 35 He sat down and called the twelve disciples over to him. Then he said, "Anyone who wants to be the first must take last place and be the servant of everyone else."
36 Then he put a little child among them. Taking the child in his arms, he said to them, 37 "Anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes my Father who sent me." (NLT)
If you want to be great then you must become the least. To be first you must become last. To truly be great you must become humble. To be a leader you must become a servant. You must have faith as a small child has faith. If you cannot let go of first then your reward will be what you gain here on earth but if you let go of first and be willing to be last then your reward in heaven will be great. Your life here on earth is not about you but about Jesus. To gain your life you must lose your life. To be free you must give up control of your life to the work of the Holy Spirit. Jesus did not come to be served but to serve and we are to do the same. We are not here to be served but to serve others. We are to think more of others and less of yourself. "Anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes my Father who sent me."
