Colossians 2:6-7

Freedom from Rules and New Life in Christ

6 And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to live in obedience to him. 7 Let your roots grow down into him and draw up nourishment from him, so you will grow in faith, strong and vigorous in the truth you were taught. Let your lives overflow with thanksgiving for all he has done. (NLT)

Like a tree, we are to allow the roots of our life to grow deep down into Christ and to draw up nourishment from Him. Scripture is like water, when applied it helps the roots grow. We can only begin to grow when we have accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as Lord and head of our lives and let the Holy Spirit be the caretaker of our life. As our roots grow strong and we begin to grow our faith like branches will begin to become strong and vigorous from the truth we are taught. We must continue to live for Christ in obedience to teaching. Let your lives overflow with thanksgiving for all he has done and let your branches produce fruit. Let the Holy Spirit prune your branches so that your life will produce much fruit to the glory and praise of God our Father.
Read Psalm 1.

Colossians 2:1-5
1 I want you to know how much I have agonized for you and for the church at Laodicea, and for many other friends who have never known me personally. 2 My goal is that they will be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love. I want them to have full confidence because they have complete understanding of God's secret plan, which is Christ himself. 3 In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
4 I am telling you this so that no one will be able to deceive you with persuasive arguments. 5 For though I am far away from you, my heart is with you. And I am very happy because you are living as you should and because of your strong faith in Christ. (NLT)

God’s secret plan is Jesus Christ Himself. Jesus is where you will find your strength, faith, love, confidence, encouragement and life. Our treasure is Jesus and in Him we will find wisdom and knowledge. When you draw closer to Jesus and know Him more no one will be able to deceive you with persuasive words or arguments. Jesus is the answer and solution to all our problems, issues and circumstances. Put your faith in Christ so that it can grow strong and courageous.

Colossians 1:28-29
28 So everywhere we go, we tell everyone about Christ. We warn them and teach them with all the wisdom God has given us, for we want to present them to God, perfect in their relationship to Christ. 29 I work very hard at this, as I depend on Christ's mighty power that works within me. (NLT)

Wherever you go, be ready to share Jesus with others. Do not fear whether they agree or disagree, just tell everyone about Jesus everywhere you go. Be patient with those who do not believe, but pray for them to receive Jesus. Remember that God chose you to tell everyone about Christ. He didn’t say everyone would come, but some will come now and some will come later. Remember, sometimes you are planting the seed, sometimes you are watering a seed that was planted by someone else and sometimes you get to do the harvesting. Jesus has not left you alone to do this task, but He has given you other brothers and sisters to help you to share. Be faithful as the Apostle Paul and share Jesus wherever you go.

Colossians 1:26-27
26 This message was kept secret for centuries and generations past, but now it has been revealed to his own holy people. 27 For it has pleased God to tell his people that the riches and glory of Christ are for you Gentiles, too. For this is the secret: Christ lives in you, and this is your assurance that you will share in his glory. (NLT)

Is not this great news! The secret to life is “Christ lives in you.” When we accept Christ as our savior, He comes and lives inside us, He becomes a part of us and we become a part of Him. And not only this but we have this assurance that we will share in His inheritance and share in His glory. From the moment Christ comes into us we at that very moment begin to share in His glory with Him. Just think about it we get to share in His riches and glory, that is good news. Amen.

Colossians 1:24-25
24 I am glad when I suffer for you in my body, for I am completing what remains of Christ's sufferings for his body, the church. 25 God has given me the responsibility of serving his church by proclaiming his message in all its fullness to you Gentiles. (NLT)

God has given us the responsibility of serving His church by proclaiming His message in all its fullness. God gave this for us to do. It is our responsibility to proclaim His message. This is how God wants it done therefore we need to do it. There are going to be times that we will suffer insults or even bodily suffering in proclaiming the message, but it is for us to accomplish. Where we spend eternity is more important than our life here on earth. It is more important to share the Good News of the Gospel, than our own comfort. God has given us much and that which He has given us we need to continue to give to others. Jesus was in the people saving business and that business has been passed on to us to continue. Share Jesus with someone today and love them the way Jesus loves them.

Colossians 1:23
Christ Is Supreme
23 But you must continue to believe this truth and stand in it firmly. Don't drift away from the assurance you received when you heard the Good News. The Good News has been preached all over the world, and I, Paul, have been appointed by God to proclaim it. (NLT)

Stand firmly in the truth that you have received, the Good News of Jesus Christ. As Paul has been appointed by God to proclaim the Gospel (the Good News) we too have been called to this ministry. God has chosen and called us to the greatest mission of all and that is to share the love of Jesus Christ to everyone.

Colossians 1:22
Christ Is Supreme
22 yet now he has brought you back as his friends. He has done this through his death on the cross in his own human body. As a result, he has brought you into the very presence of God, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault. (NLT)

Because of Jesus, we can stand in the very presence of God. Through Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection we are made holy and blameless before God and Jesus now calls us His friends. No longer are we condemned, but we are now made fully alive in Christ. Jesus accepts us, loves us, never leaves us, stands up for us, protects us, blesses us and calls us His own. We belong to Jesus.

Colossians 1:21-22
Christ Is Supreme
21 This includes you who were once so far away from God. You were his enemies, separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions, (NLT)
There are times when we need to remember where we were at before Christ so that we can see how far we have come in Christ. We should not dwell on the past, but praise God for His working in our life. Sometimes it is hard to realize that we were an enemy of God and separated from Him because of our evil thoughts and ways. But God saw value in us; He included us into His family and has brought us near to Him because He loves us. Spend some time with your Father, praise Him for His greatness toward you and love on Him all you can for His is worthy.

Colossians 1:19
Christ Is Supreme
19 For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, 20 and by him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of his blood on the cross. (NLT)
When we come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and have received Him as our savior we now have peace with God. Not that we have done anything, but God has brought us to His peace or rather God has made peace with us by means of His blood on the cross. God sacrificed everything for His creation because He loves His creation and He demonstrated that love through Christ’s blood. He has paid the price once and for all. Therefore, live in peace and in the presence of the one who brought you that peace, Jesus Christ.

Colossians 1:18
Christ Is Supreme
18 Christ is the head of the church, which is his body. He is the first of all who will rise from the dead, so he is first in everything. (NLT)
Jesus is First. Jesus is the head of the church and He is the head of our lives. Jesus is first in everything and we need to go to Jesus first with everything in our lives. We need to put Jesus first each and every day. When we wake up Jesus is to be first, as we walk through our day Jesus is to be first and we lay down to sleep Jesus is to be first. Everything was made by Jesus and for Jesus. We belong to Jesus and we are to worship Jesus our King. Jesus is Supreme.

Colossians 1:15-17
Christ Is Supreme
15 Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before God made anything at all and is supreme over all creation. 16 Christ is the one through whom God created everything in heaven and earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can't see — kings, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities. Everything has been created through him and for him. 17 He existed before everything else began, and he holds all creation together. (NLT)
We do not serve a God made by human hands we serve the God who made the universe. Our King is Supreme and there is no one like Him and He cannot be duplicated. Man has tried but Jesus is still supreme over all creation and He is still in control and always will be. Satan has been defeated, death has been defeated and Christ alone is King. Creation is made by Him and it is for Him. He existed before everything else began, and He holds all creation together. We live and move and breathe because of His Supreme power and His will. We were created to love Him and to worship Him. Worship the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords for He is our Awesome God.

Colossians 1:9-10
9 So we have continued praying for you ever since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you a complete understanding of what he wants to do in your lives, and we ask him to make you wise with spiritual wisdom. 10 Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and you will continually do good, kind things for others. All the while, you will learn to know God better and better. (NLT)
Here is how we need to be praying for one another, to ask God to give each other complete understanding of His will and to make us wise with spiritual wisdom. Pray for one another to honor God, to please the Lord in all that we do and to continually do good and kind things for others. And pray for each other that we will learn to know God better and better each and every day. Amen.

Colossians 1:10-14
1 We also pray that you will be strengthened with his glorious power so that you will have all the patience and endurance you need. May you be filled with joy, 12 always thanking the Father, who has enabled you to share the inheritance that belongs to God's holy people, who live in the light. 13 For he has rescued us from the one who rules in the kingdom of darkness, and he has brought us into the Kingdom of his dear Son. 14 God has purchased our freedom with his blood and has forgiven all our sins. (NLT)
Continue in prayer for one another that we may receive strength with His glorious power. Pray for patience and endurance for your brothers and sisters so that Christ will be seen in us.
Give to God for the inheritance that He has given you to partake in, redeemed as His Holy people and being rescued from the evil one. Give thanks to Jesus for forgiving us and saving us and bringing us into His Kingdom to be with Him forever.
May you be filled with joy of the Lord.
