Philippians 2:19-21
19 If the Lord Jesus is willing, I hope to send Timothy to you soon. Then when he comes back, he can cheer me up by telling me how you are getting along.
20 I have no one else like Timothy, who genuinely cares about your welfare.
21 All the others care only for themselves and not for what matters to Jesus Christ.
(NLT)
Each one of us needs a close friend. Humans were not created to be an island unto themselves. We were created to have fellowship with others. Each one of us needs to have a good friend who will encourage you and you to encourage them to live and grow in Christ. We need to be consistently reminded to do what matters to Jesus Christ. We need each other to grow. We need a good friend to help us in our faith. God knows what we need and if you need a friend ask God to bring you the kind of friend He knows you need. There may be someone who needs you to be their friend so that you can help them in their Christian walk. Be that friend like Paul was to Timothy and Timothy was to Paul.

Philippians 2:17-18
Shine Brightly for Christ
17 But even if my life is to be poured out like a drink offering to complete the sacrifice of your faithful service (that is, if I am to die for you), I will rejoice, and I want to share my joy with all of you.
18 And you should be happy about this and rejoice with me.
(NLT)
Rejoice in the Lord for the Gospel of Jesus Christ is being shared throughout the world and in our community. Share your joy in Christ with your brothers and sisters in Christ. Let them know of the great and wonderful things Christ is doing in you. Paul was willing to die for this church. Are you willing to go the distance for your church, to share the gospel, to rejoice in the Lord and be poured out as a drink offering? Complete your faithful service, give as God has given to you and fulfill God’s will for you. Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice. (KJV)

Philippians 2:16
Shine Brightly for Christ
16 Hold tightly to the word of life, so that when Christ returns, I will be proud that I did not lose the race and that my work was not useless.
(NLT)
Hold tightly to the Word of God for it is your life. Inside of the Word it contains everything you need for this life, your life's purpose and God’s will for your life. The Word is living and breathing. It has the power to transform your life into something wonderful that God can use to bring honor and glory to His Son. Run the race that God has set before you. Do not lose heart for God is with you every step of the way. Live a life that glorifies Christ not one that is useless or selfish. So that when Christ returns you will not shrink back but be praising Christ’s return. Therefore let your life shine brightly for Christ.

Philippians 2:14-15
Shine Brightly for Christ
14 In everything you do, stay away from complaining and arguing,
15 so that no one can speak a word of blame against you.
You are to live clean, innocent lives as children of God in a dark world
full of crooked and perverse people.
Let your lives shine brightly before them.
(NLT)
God wants us to live clean, innocent, blameless lives in this crooked and perverse world. We are not to drag the name of our God and Savior through the mud with complaining and arguing with each other. But, we are to let our lives shine brightly before them so that they will be drawn unto the light of Jesus Christ. In everything you do, in everything you say and where ever you go let your behavior, speech and life be a light to the lost. Let us not give the enemy any ammunition against us but rather always be ready and prepared to do what is right in the sight of God our Father. We sometimes get so caught up in our own little worlds that we forget that we live in a very dark world with perverse people. We are only here for a short while then we go home. While we are here we need to be focused on sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ to this world we live in. This is what we have been called to do each one of us. Share the everlasting love of Christ to this dying world.

Shine Brightly for Christ
12 Dearest friends, you were always so careful to follow my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away you must be even more careful to put into action God's saving work in your lives, obeying God with deep reverence and fear.
13 For God is working in you, giving you the desire to obey him and the power to do what pleases him.
Put into action God’s saving work in your life. Seek God’s will for your life and then obey Gods will with deep conviction, passion, reverence and fear. For God is working in you. There is nothing greater or more wonderful then having the desire to obey God and having the power to do what pleases Him. When you please God He lets you know and you overflow with joy. Dearest friends, live your lives for Christ for there is no better way than to live your life unto obedience to Christ. For His Love is Everlasting.

9 Because of this, God raised him up to the heights of heaven and gave him a name that is above every other name,
10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
(NLT)
Jesus is King. Jesus is our King. It is He whom we serve. For the day is coming when every knee will bow, in heaven, on earth, under the earth, the godly and the evil ones will bow to Jesus and confess Jesus Christ is Lord. We as Christ followers have the awesome privilege of doing that right now. We worship Jesus as our Lord and King. Our obedience to Jesus brings glory and honor to God the Father. Jesus’ name is above all names, He is King above all Kings and Lord above all Lords. All power is in Jesus’ hands and death and Satan have been defeated. Our God is an awesome God. Take time right now and give praise to God and the Lord Jesus Christ. Show Him how worthy He is to be called your King. Praise Him, Praise Him our mighty warrior King who guides and protects us, His beloved children.

Philippians 2:8-9
8 And in human form he obediently humbled himself even further by dying a criminal's death on a cross.
9 Because of this, God raised him up to the heights of heaven and gave him a name that is above every other name (NLT)
We are to be like Jesus, so we as Christ followers need to humble ourselves and be obedient to our Savior. Jesus not only died a horrible death for us in our place but He died a criminal’s death. He was not a criminal nor did He commit any crimes. We were the criminals, we were the ones who had committed acts of sin against our creator and it was because of this that He had to die on the cross a criminal’s death. For us.
Because Jesus was obedient unto death God raised Him up and seated Him in the heights of heaven and gave Him the name that is above every other name. We serve a risen and living Savior that knows our pain and who is worth of our obedience. Take the time right now and thank Him for everything He has done and is doing in your life.

Philippians 2:5-7
5 Your attitude should be the same that Christ Jesus had.
6 Though he was God, he did not demand and cling to his rights as God.
7 He made himself nothing; he took the humble position of a slave and appeared in human form.
(NLT)
One reason to study the Word of God is to understand the attitude that Jesus had. You study to get to know Christ more. You obey the Word so that you can grow to be more like Christ. Jesus humbled Himself, He is God yet He humbled Himself in a position as a slave appearing in human form. He did not demand His right as God but lowered Himself so that we could come to God, cleansed by His blood as holy and righteous so that we can have fellowship with the Father and be beloved sons and daughters of the living God. Jesus made Himself nothing so that we could become more like our Father. God cared so much for His creation that He was willing to do anything for it. His love for us runs deeper than we can ever imagine. God gave the ultimate sacrifice, the shedding of His own Son's blood for us and He never hesitated once. We should never hesitate to give as God has given to us. We should obey immediately as Jesus obeyed the Father. Jesus is our all in all. Glory to our God and Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. What is God showing you today? Where is Jesus leading you today? Follow Jesus, be an imitator of Jesus and surrender to Him today.

Philippians 2:3-4
3 Don't be selfish; don't live to make a good impression on others.
Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourself.
4 Don't think only about your own affairs, but be interested in others, too, and what they are doing.
(NLT)
Sin has its roots in selfishness. In the fall we became selfish, thinking more of ourselves than of others. But Christ is the opposite of us. He thought more about us so much so that He was willing to come to this earth, live as we live, and then die on a cross so that we can be with Him and the Father forever. As Christ followers we are to think of others more than we think of ourselves. Verse 4 does not talk about being a busy body or nosy or having to know what the affairs of others are but that you think about other peoples situations and how you might help them in their struggles or how to pray for them. Be interested in others and what they are doing to be able to build relationships to witness to them the Good News of Jesus. Show them the genuine love of Jesus and how much He cares for them. You are not to be thinking of others affairs so that you can tell others what they are doing or what their struggles are. Love does not gossip. Love cares about the others just as God in Christ cares for you. Our lives are to become a reflection of Jesus Christ.
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Philippians 2:1-2
1 Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love?
Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and sympathetic?
2 Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other,
loving one another, and working together with one heart and purpose.
(NLT)
Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Yes.
Any comfort from His love? Yes.
Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Yes, there should be.
Are your hearts tender and sympathetic? Your heart should be in tune with Jesus’ heart and your heart should be tender and sympathetic.
Jesus wants us to agree wholeheartedly with each other, to love one another, and work together with one heart and with one purpose.
Satan wants us to fight with each other, to distract us from the call of Christ and to destroy our lives with complacency.
Our purpose is to share the Good News of Jesus Christ and His love.
Ingredients for our purpose: Witness to others, Make disciples and then repeat, one at a time.
May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.

Philippians 1:28-30
28 Don't be intimidated by your enemies. This will be a sign to them that they are going to be destroyed, but that you are going to be saved, even by God himself.
29 For you have been given not only the privilege of trusting in Christ but also the privilege of suffering for him.
30 We are in this fight together. You have seen me suffer for him in the past,
and you know that I am still in the midst of this great struggle.
(NLT)
The enemy can be fierce but he is beaten. The enemy hates us because we bare the mark of the Holy Spirit who resides within us. He will do anything to destroy us whether it is full on combat or deceptive complacency. But Christ is in us, this is the sign that our enemy fears and he fears the Lord Jesus Christ. For we have been given the privilege of trusting in Christ. With this trust and faith in Christ we will suffer for Him, not in defeat but in victory. We are to fight together in this battle to win the lost soul to Jesus Christ. We are to stand firm against the devil and he will flee. Suffering is only a small part of the whole picture that God has for our lives. In this suffering Christ and the Holy Spirit will be right there with you the entire time, upholding you and giving you the strength to witness and to persevere. The victory is ours in Christ, we have already won because of Christ therefore we have nothing to fear. Let us go and share the Good News of Jesus Christ for Christ has defeated the enemy and cleared the pathway. Go and fulfill God’s will for you.

Philippians 1:25-27
25 I am convinced of this, so I will continue with you so that you will grow and experience the joy of your faith.
26 Then when I return to you, you will have even more reason to boast about what Christ Jesus has done for me.
27 But whatever happens to me, you must live in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ, as citizens of heaven. Then, whether I come and see you again or only hear about you, I will know that you are standing side by side, fighting together for the Good News. (NLT)
When you are adopted by God the Father you become a citizen of heaven. Therefore as a citizen of heaven you must live in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ. Paul wanted to go home to his real home but knew that for him to stay was beneficial for them. He knew he was to continue to help them grow in Christ and to experience the joy of their faith. We too are to continue in our growth in Christ (we must decrease and He must increase) and to experience the joy of our faith in Christ. Let us stand side by side as Paul did with the Philippians and fight together for the Good News of Jesus Christ. Let’s run the race and fight the good fight for Christ. Lets finish with praise and honor for Christ.

Philippians 1:21-24
21 For to me, living is for Christ, and dying is even better.
22 Yet if I live, that means fruitful service for Christ. I really don't know which is better.
23 I'm torn between two desires: Sometimes I want to live,
and sometimes I long to go and be with Christ. That would be far better for me,
24 but it is better for you that I live.
(NLT)
Have you ever felt this way? Here on earth we are to live for Christ but to die is to be with Christ forever. No more pain, no more suffering and no more waiting. But that is not what He has for us right now. He wants us to live and to live for Him. For us to stay is a benefit for others. Christ is not done with us He has much more for us to learn and to grow. As we live this life in Christ we are to be fruitful. We are to make disciples. We are to be in the Word. We are to be learning to trust Christ, to grow closer to Christ and to share Christ with others. To draw near to God and have God draw near to us. Therefore to live, to truely live, is to live for Christ.

Philippians 1:20
20 For I live in eager expectation and hope that I will never do anything that causes me shame, but that I will always be bold for Christ, as I have been in the past, and that my life will always honor Christ, whether I live or I die.
(NLT)
Paul wants his life to always be about Christ, to always honor Christ and to always be bold for Christ. Each one of us should be saying the same thing about ourselves that our life is always about Christ. If you say, "I'm not even close," then spend the time with Christ. Let Him direct your path and show you His will for you. We are all in a process of growing to be more like Christ. Don’t despair but rejoice in the Lord, for when the Lord completes the process with our life we will be precious in His sight. God is making something very special and wonderful with your life. We may not see it now but one day we will see things His way and how He created something wonderful with us. Be bold for Christ and honor Him in all your ways.

May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.

Philippians 1:15-19
15 Some are preaching out of jealousy and rivalry. But others preach about Christ with pure motives.
16 They preach because they love me, for they know the Lord brought me here to defend the Good News.
17 Those others do not have pure motives as they preach about Christ.
They preach with selfish ambition, not sincerely, intending to make my chains more painful to me.
18 But whether or not their motives are pure, the fact remains that the message about Christ is being preached,
so I rejoice. And I will continue to rejoice.
19 For I know that as you pray for me and as the Spirit of Jesus Christ helps me, this will all turn out for my deliverance.
(NLT)
When you share the Good News about Jesus Christ do so by letting Christ guide and direct you. Let the Holy Spirit work through you, let the Holy Spirit give you the words to speak so that God will be glorified. Rejoice in the Lord when opportunity comes no matter how small or big your part is. Pray for each other that each one of us will have opportunity to share Christ. Remember the Spirit of Jesus Christ will be with you and help you. You will never be alone in sharing your faith because Christ is always with you. You can be bold because Christ is bold. He also gave us many examples in the Bible of those who shared Christ to others to encourage us to fulfill the Great Commission.

Phil 1:12-14
12 And I want you to know, dear brothers and sisters,
that everything that has happened to me here has helped to spread the Good News.
13 For everyone here, including all the soldiers in the palace guard,
knows that I am in chains because of Christ.
14 And because of my imprisonment, many of the Christians here have gained confidence
and become more bold in telling others about Christ.
(NLT)
Paul wanted the Philippians to rejoice with him in the spreading of the gospel of Jesus Christ. As Paul had shared Christ with them he wanted them to know he was still sharing Christ even in his chains. He wanted to encourage the Philippians to become bold in telling others about Christ by telling them about how the Christians in Rome were gaining confidence and boldness in sharing Christ.
Do you get excited when you hear of others sharing Christ or witnessing to others? If others are sharing Christ, if others are going to the mission field to witness in a foreign land should we too be witnessing to others? Yes we should! Some of us are not called to go to a foreign land but we are all called to share Christ right where we are. Jesus said to make disciples. He commanded all of us to make disciples, not some of us but all of us. Luke 10:2 "The harvest is so great, but the workers are so few. Pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest, and ask him to send out more workers for his fields. (NLT) Sharing Jesus Christ is not something for the few but it is for all of us to be doing. Go and share Christ, so that others will hear and receive Christ and God our Father will be glorified.

Philippians 1:9-11
9 I pray that your love for each other will overflow more and more,
and that you will keep on growing in your knowledge and understanding.
10 For I want you to understand what really matters,
so that you may live pure and blameless lives until Christ returns.
11 May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation
— those good things that are produced in your life by Jesus Christ
— for this will bring much glory and praise to God.
(NLT)
Paul loved and prayed earnestly for these people. He wants us to love each other and pray for each other. But too often we allow the world to influence us to the point where we are to busy to love or pray as we should. Paul loved them as his very own and wanted them to continue growing in their knowledge and understanding of Jesus Christ. Paul wanted them to know what really matters, God wants us to know what really matters too and that is to live a holy, pure and blameless life in Christ until the day He returns. To always be filled with the fruit of our salvation and to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Good things will be produced in your life when you live it by Jesus Christ. We are to be in the will of God for this brings much glory and praise to God. The only thing that really matters is that we are living our lives totally and completely surrendered for Jesus Christ.
Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ

Philippians 1:7-8 7 It is right that I should feel as I do about all of you, for you have a very special place in my heart. We have shared together the blessings of God, both when I was in prison and when I was out, defending the truth and telling others the Good News. 8 God knows how much I love you and long for you with the tender compassion of Christ Jesus.
(NLT)
Do other fellow Christians have a very special place in your heart? Do all those who believe in Christ Jesus have a special place in your heart? Do you share the blessings of God with others or do you keep it to yourself? Are you defending the truth and telling others the Good News? Do you love others as God loves?
Paul had a deep and compassionate love for the people of Philippians. They shared in everything. They shared love, blessings, sufferings and witnessing. Have we forgotten how to love as God loves? Do we long for others with the tender compassion of Christ Jesus? Our lives are to be completely connected and intertwined with Christ Jesus. Christ must be all. Christ must come first. Christ must be the driving force of our lives. For He gave all for us therefore we must give all to Him. If we do not then we miss the mark. We should be defending the truth and telling others the Good News. When was the last time you did this? Surrender to Christ, give Him first place and share the blessings of God with a tender and compassionate heart like Christ Jesus.
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ

Philippians 1:6
6 For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.
(NASB)
We can be confident that God will follow through with His work in our lives. He began this work in us to make us more like His Son Jesus everyday. He will complete it, He will perfect it and He will finish this work. Our faith must be in God our Father. He has laid the ground work, He is doing the construction and when He is done we will be a beautiful building unto the Lord Jesus Christ. The world wants us to believe God is doing nothing in our lives so that we become complacent. But the truth is that God is very much active in our lives. We may not always see it but He is working, working for our benefit so that we can bring praise and honor to Him. The world follows after its leader Satan and He is nothing more than a liar and the father of lies. Be confident in God that He is at work in you. Let Him have full control and watch the power of God work through your life.
Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
