Mark 9:11-13
11 Now they began asking him, "Why do the teachers of religious law insist that Elijah must return before the Messiah comes?"
12 Jesus responded, "Elijah is indeed coming first to set everything in order. Why then is it written in the Scriptures that the Son of Man must suffer and be treated with utter contempt? 
13 But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and he was badly mistreated, just as the Scriptures predicted."(NLT)
What they did not see was that John the Baptist was the one. He came and prepared the way for Jesus. John set everything in order for Jesus to begin His ministry. Every Scripture that Jesus has spoken of was fulfilled. Every Old Testament Scripture that pointed to the Messiah Jesus fulfilled.
It is wonderful that we serve a Savior that everything He says He does. He has never been wrong, His word is truth and His love is everlasting. And when He said He would return that too He will do, guaranteed.
